On September 7, the "preparation technology of stable and efficient PERC crystalline silicon solar cell", jointly declared by Suntech and Jiangnan University, won the third prize of the 2019 Science and Technology Award sponsored by the China Renewable Energy Society (CRES).

China Renewable Energy Society (CRES) was founded in September 1979. It has multidisciplinary and multifunctional feature covering many fields, including solar photovoltaic and photothermal energy, wind energy, biomass energy, hydrogen energy, ocean energy, geothermal energy, natural gas hydrate, grid connection, etc. CRES is one of the most influential learned societies in the field of researches on renewable energy in China at present. Relying on technological innovation, CRES has been advancing an energy revolution to construct an energy system embracing less pollution, low-carbon footprints, safety and efficiency. For the purpose of fully summarizing the course and major results of China’s technological innovation in the field of renewable energy, it specifically initiated the Science and Technology Award on the 40th anniversary of its inception. As of June, a total of 99 submitted materials on the Science and Technology Award had been received since applications were admitted from March 2019. After professional procedures, including qualification review, expert review and public announcement, 29 projects won prizes.
