Pilolevu Tuita, Princess of The Kingdom of Tonga, Visited Suntech to Deepen the Cooperation and Development of New Energy in the South Pacific

On Apr.24th, Chairman of Tonga-China Friendship Association and Honorary Chairman of the Pacific-China Friendship Association, TPR HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita and her delegations, total 13 people from Pacific-China Friendship Association and Pacific Island Countries Development Forum visited Wuxi Suntech Power Co., Ltd. to discuss energy cooperation issues by both sides, accompanied by Zhang Fubo, Chairman of Shunfeng Photovoltaic Technology Co.,Ltd. and Wuxi Suntech Power Co.,Ltd. and He Shuangquan, President of Wuxi Suntech Power Co.,Ltd.

On Oct.26th 2016, ten Pacific countries and regional organizations including Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, French Polynesia, jointly set up the Pacific-China Friendship Association (hereinafter referred to as “PCFA”), sponsored by Chairman of Tonga-China Friendship Association, TPR HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita. With the goal of sharing experience and win-win cooperation, PCFA aims to strengthen exchanges among people across the Pacific region with China and deepen friendly cooperation in various fields.

On Nov.27th 2018, Suntech and PCFA signed a strategic agreement in Sanya Hainan, mainly including promoting clean energy in the South Pacific together by Suntech and PCFA with the help of its resources and advantages. This visit of Princess Tonga and her delegations is a further exchange activity between PCFA and its partners.

Princess Pilolevu Tuita and her delegations first visited Suntech Green EnergyHQ Building and President He Shuangquan introduced the development process of Suntech over the past 19 years for them as well as making detail explanation on Suntech’s five series of products. Later, the visiting group came to the Suntech Cell Factory and Princess Pilolevu Tuita inquired about the production process of PV cells in detail, giving high recognition for the fine management of the factory.

During theconference, Princess Pilolevu Tuita expressed her full affirmation for this trip.Since last November in Sanya they have been in contact with Suntech. She said that she was very impressed with the professionalism of Suntech. After visiting Suntech’s factory, she confidently affirmed that it was true.With plenty of sunlight in the South Pacific, the PV industry has huge potential and since the development of renewable energy is the top priority of modern energy reform, PV, as the cleanest energy source at present, will be a new energy source that all countries in the South Pacific are committed to developing. Princess Pilolevu Tuita hoped that Suntech was able to provide them with a full range of PV energy solutions as soon as possible.

Chairman Zhang Fubo first expressed his warm welcome to Princess Pilolevu Tuita and he said that the South Pacific is a natural extension of China’s maritime silk road, which shows that the South Pacific plays an important role in The Belt and Road initiative and its neighboring diplomatic strategy. The South Pacific is the terminal of the southern route for maritime silk road, which has great impact on The Belt and Road construction and China’s geopolitical and economic security. As a world-famous solar PV manufacturer, Suntech has rich experience in the construction of PV projects in island countries and this in-depth cooperation with PCFA not only shows the strength of Suntech in overseas markets but also proves that both sides have formed good cooperative relationship with increasingly perfect cooperation mechanism.

Suntech will provide solar power station construction, energy storage system, power station operation management and other services for PCFA according to the previous signed strategic agreement. Suntech will offer high-quality products and comprehensive solutions for the South Pacific project, meanwhile, both sides will communicate regularly, timely report the process of cooperation and discuss potential requirement to improve the life quality of the island people. Since the end of last year, both sides have maintained frequent contact and exchanged views on potential projects and requirements of several Pacific island countries through mutual efforts. In May, Suntech will arrange technicians to make onsite survey and design for the project site.

In the future, Suntech will make active efforts to promote the global resources developmenttogether with PCFA, integrate high-quality supply chain resources of both sides, clarify the product direction with market competitiveness, develop a multi-channel business model, build the popularity of Suntech brand in the world and accelerate Suntech’s development of new momentum in the global PV industry.
